A Youth Theatre 'Play In A Day'

This little playlet was written VERY quickly (first and only draft) for a ‘play in a day’ at a youth theatre with LOTS of kids! It’s (hopefully) fun and silly, with a slightly more adult message underneath...

SCENE SIXTEEN
The Regurgitator.

CAST
Superman; Street People Groups 1-4; Drunk; The Monster of Consumerism.

[Scary music. Monster of consumerism. Enter SUPERMAN and LOIS].

LOIS
Look! There it is!

SUPERMAN
The monster of consumerism!

LOIS
It’s horrible! And we’ve lived like that for so long!

SUPERMAN
Only now can we see it for what it is! Let’s make people sick of it!

[SUPERMAN uses the Regurgitator. At first it appears to be working as the Monster vomits up people].

LOIS
It’s working!

[However, the Monster of Consumerism is too strong. It starts to eat its own sick and reabsorb people back into it].

LOIS
Eeargh! It’s eating its own sick!

[Enter LUTHOR downstage right, smiling at SUPERMAN and stroking his pussy cat].

SUPERMAN
I can still stop you, Luthor! If I fly faster than light, I can reverse time! If I can’t save the world as it is now, I’ll save it as it used to be!
