Chris Port Blog #340. 'The Parable of The Old School Tie and The Young'

The Parable of The Old School Tie and The Young
© Chris Port, 29th June 2012

(with apologies to Wilfred Owen and The Parable of The Old Man and The Young)

So Gove arose, enslaved the good, hell-bent,
And bought a liar dinner, and a tie.
And as men unlearnéd, both of them together,
Wilshaw unstressed-scorn joked, and said, Minister,
Behold the new inspections, fire and iron,
But where the cash for this burnt-offering?
So Wilshaw lashed the schools with belts and straps,
and crooks milked academies the profits there,
And chargèd for the books to pay their chums.
When lo! a Lib Dem called Gove out of Gehenna*,
Saying, Lay not thy hand upon the poor,
Neither two tier them in bins. Behold,
Exams, caught in a racket of cheating;
Stop all the Sham and Lies and profiting.

But the old school would not so, but slew your son,
And half the seed of Britain, one by one.

(*Gehenna – Yiddish for Hell/Purgatory)

The Parable of The Old Man and The Young
by Wilfred Owen

So Abram rose, and clave the wood, and went,
And took the fire with him, and a knife.
And as they sojourned both of them together,
Isaac the first-born spake and said, My Father,
Behold the preparations, fire and iron,
But where the lamb for this burnt-offering?
Then Abram bound the youth with belts and straps,
and builded parapets and trenches there,
And stretchèd forth the knife to slay his son.
When lo! an angel called him out of heaven,
Saying, Lay not thy hand upon the lad,
Neither do anything to him. Behold,
A ram, caught in a thicket by its horns;
Offer the Ram of Pride instead of him.

But the old man would not so, but slew his son,
And half the seed of Europe, one by one.
