Alan Greenspan warns that US could be heading for double-dip recession (The Telegraph, 30 April 2011)

“Never in the field of human finance was so much stolen from so many by so few.” Where's Winnie when you need him...?

"What Alan Greenspan called the Modest Recovery is over. I expect that the Double Dip is about to begin. Into this Depression slides the survival of western civilization. Upon its shingle scrabbles our own British life and the long continuity of our institutions and our culture. The whole fury and might of the finance system must very soon be turned on us now. Corporate vampirism knows that it will have to break us in this island or lose the plot. If we can stand up to it, all Europe may be free and the life of the world may move forward into broad, sunlit uplands. But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age, made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted data. Let us therefore turn ourselves to our artists, and so articulate ourselves that, if the British nation and its common heritage last for a thousand years, men will still say, "This was their finest writing."
